Keycard - 2024 Year in Review
What a year it’s been for Keycard! Throughout 2024, we have been heads-down delivering innovative, secure ways to keep your crypto safe and in your control.
Over the past year, our efforts have focused on an exciting new hardware wallet with impressive capabilities, codenamed “Keycard Pro”. We can’t wait to share more about this project—and its official name—in the year ahead!
2024 has been a year of productive work behind the scenes and bold new approaches from the Keycard team—and we’re just getting started.
Let’s take a look back at what we accomplished this year and give you a glimpse of what’s to come in 2025.
Early in the year, we announced Keycard v2, which features a striking new orange finish and a host of improvements.
It’s not just a pretty face, though—Keycard v2 also represents a significant leap in protecting your assets.
Initial versions of Keycard favoured upgradability for developers while ensuring that users’ keys remained secure and completely in their control. Still, as the product matured and was more broadly integrated, we recognised that security needed to come first in every respect–even if it made upgradability a bit more complex.
With Keycard v2, we randomised the Global Platform keys during production, ensuring no one—not even us—can alter your Keycard’s data.

This year, the teams at Keycard and Status have been working on expanding integration between Keycard and the Status Desktop and Mobile apps.
These upcoming features include the enhancement of Keycard support for Status Mobile, which will allow users to use their Keycard to send and bridge crypto from within the Status app on their smartphone. Keycard support in Status Desktop is also being improved, with exciting functionality on the horizon. Stay tuned for more updates in the new year as we deliver new ways to make securing your Status profile with Keycard easy and convenient.
Just in time for the new year, we have also launched a brand-new website: keycard.tech. It’s your go-to hub for all things Keycard—from delivery to documentation.

Throughout 2024, we dedicated much of our energy to developing the next generation of Keycard—a product we’ve previously referred to as Keycard Pro. While its official name and specifications are still under wraps until the official announcement next year, we can share some of the exciting milestones we achieved during the development of this product in 2024:
- Second-generation prototypes: We validated all features, ensuring the product delivers on performance and usability.
- Third-generation prototypes: We completed the DFM process (Designed for Manufacturing), meaning the product’s design—mechanical, electronic, and component choices—is ready for mass production.
- Manufacturing readiness: We selected and partnered with an industrial manufacturer, ready to bring the new product to life.
- Feature-complete software: All core functionality is in place, and we’re now focused on rigorous bug fixing.
We learned a lot over the past year, especially how challenging it is to move from a “working prototype” to something scalable. Manufacturing one device versus hundreds of thousands introduces entirely new hurdles. Completing the DFM process ensured we were ready to meet those challenges head-on.
We’re keeping the details closely guarded for now, but stay tuned—2025 will bring the full reveal of the next big thing from Keycard that will redefine the way we think about crypto security. Watch this space!
The future is bright, and we have ambitious goals lined up for 2025. First, we’re preparing to launch the next generation of crypto security with our brand-new Keycard product.
Alongside this, we aim to empower developers by releasing SDKs and detailed documentation, making it easier for the community to contribute to the growing Keycard ecosystem. We’re also focused on building strong partnerships to create a thriving network of wallets, payment systems, and tools that integrate seamlessly with Keycard technology.
2025 is set to be a year of collaboration, communication, and innovation. We’re levelling up our engagement with you—our community—and we can’t wait to share what’s next.
