Factory reset your Keycard using Keycard Shell
20 Oct 2018

note
If you use your Keycard with the Status app, read Factory reset your Keycard using the Status app ↗.

A factory reset deletes all the existing data on your Keycard. Consider performing a factory reset when your Keycard holds accounts you no longer use, or if it is blocked.

caution
Make sure you know the recovery phrase (the 12- or 24-word recovery phrase or SLIP39 parts) for the key pair on your Keycard before you factory reset it. If you don't have the recovery phrase, you will permanently lose access to your funds after the factory reset.

  • After a factory reset, your Keycard is empty like a new one.
  • A factory reset is irreversible. Once completed, all information on the Keycard is permanently removed.
  • After a factory reset, you need to set up your Keycard again to continue using it.

  • You want to use the Keycard for other accounts - One Keycard can only store accounts using the same recovery phrase. If you want to use the Keycard with accounts associated with a different recovery phrase, you need to perform a factory reset.
  • Your Keycard is blocked - Your Keycard becomes blocked after entering the wrong PIN three times. You can unblock it or factory reset it.

Before you start, make sure you have the recovery phrase of the accounts on your Keycard.

  1. 1
Insert the Keycard into your Keycard Shell with the chip facing up and push it in all the way. Your Keycard Shell powers on automatically.
  2. 2
    Proceed depending on your situation:
    • If your Keycard is blocked, select Factory reset.
    • If your Keycard is not blocked, select Settings > Keycard > Factory reset.
  3. 3
    Press and hold OK.
  4. 4
    Press OK again to confirm.
