Yes. Keycard works standalone with NFC-enabled smartphones via the Status app on iOS and Android, or with the USB Desktop Reader on desktop. The Shell is optional and adds air-gapped signing and a dedicated screen.
As many as you want. For instance, one for daily use, one at home, one offsite with a trusted person. At €25 each, the cost of redundancy is trivial compared to what you're securing. Backups follow the BIP-39 standard — you can restore them in any compatible wallet, not just ours.
If you have a backup Keycard with the same keys, you can continue using it immediately. If you've lost all copies, your seed phrase is your recovery path.
Both are card-shaped hardware wallets, but the architecture is different. Keycard is fully open-source, uses a JCOP4 EAL6+ secure element, and is designed as part of a modular system with the Shell. Tangem relies on a proprietary companion app. Keycard uses open standards.
Yes. During setup, you can either generate a new seed phrase on the card or import an existing BIP-39 seed phrase.
The Keycard applet and firmware are MIT-licensed, and the hardware design is published under CERN-OHL-S v2. All of it is public on GitHub. Anyone can audit the code, build it, and verify what runs on the card.
Shipping is free and takes 7 days. Returns: yes, 30 days after delivery. As with any security product, the packaging must be unopened for a return to be accepted.
Nothing about your wallet depends on us. Your keys follow the BIP-39 standard, so any compatible wallet can restore them. Keycard signs through independent wallets such as Status and Sparrow, with no Keycard account or server in the loop. The applet, the firmware and the schematics are open-source public goods anyone can maintain. If we vanished tomorrow, your setup would keep working.
